Prembly and MTN host fraud summit to boost anti-fraud collaboration in Nigeria
Prembly, in partnership with MTN, hosted the inaugural Fraud Intelligence Summit in Nigeria, bringing together executives from the Central Bank of Nigeria, Nigeria Data Protection Commission, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, MTN, National Cybercrime Centre, Heirs Technologies, Access Bank, Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, Fidelity Bank, Moniepoint, MoMo, Wema Bank and other stakeholders. The summit, themed "Collaboration Over Competition: Building an Anti-Fraud Ecosystem," featured a keynote by Ms Omoyemen Jide-Samuel, Director of Information Technology at the CBN, who stressed that fraud respects no institutional or national boundaries and requires coordinated action among financial institutions, regulators and security agencies.
Discussions highlighted that fraud has evolved beyond the capacity of any single institution to tackle alone. Participants agreed on accelerating intelligence sharing, strengthening governance around responsible data exchange, leveraging artificial intelligence to detect emerging threats, and building cross-sector partnerships to protect Nigeria’s rapidly expanding digital economy. A recurring recommendation was the creation of a real-time fraud intelligence network enabling banks, regulators, telecom operators and ecosystem partners to detect, share and respond to fraud collaboratively, cutting response times from hours to seconds and strengthening trust across the financial system.
Prembly’s CEO Lanre Ogungbe noted that while significant efforts exist to combat financial fraud, they remain fragmented; combining the speed and innovation of fintechs, the scale and expertise of banks, and the oversight and best practices of regulators is essential. The summit marks the launch of Prembly’s annual platform for advancing industry collaboration against financial crime. For more information, visit www.prembly.com.
