Presidential Special Adviser on Policy Communication Daniel Bwala said on Arise TV that electricity supply across Nigeria has improved compared to 2015 and 2023, citing recent policy and legal changes that are decentralising the power sector. He explained that new laws now allow states, local governments and private investors to take a more active role in electricity generation and distribution, moving authority away from the federal level. Bwala acknowledged that challenges remain but expressed optimism that the situation will continue to improve.

The claim comes amid widespread reports of epileptic power supply, with many parts of the Federal Capital Territory receiving only a few hours of electricity each day, leading to frustration among taxpayers and businesses nationwide. Critics argue that the lived experience of frequent blackouts contradicts the official narrative of progress.

The reforms aim to attract more participation in the sector, potentially increasing investment and improving reliability over time. However, the timeline for tangible gains remains unclear, and consumers may need to continue relying on alternative power sources such as solar panels or inverters while waiting for grid improvements.

Will you wait for the promised grid upgrades, or invest in alternative energy solutions for your home or business now?
