Presidency warns against spreading fake kidnapping images, videos
Bayo Onanuga, Presidential Adviser on Information, has urged Nigerians to stop spreading unverified pictures and videos about kidnapped and killed school children. This follows comedian DeeOne sharing images that the Presidency claims are fake, with Onanuga stating that "90 percent of all these kidnapping and killing are fake news" and many celebrities sharing it are allegedly paid by opposition.
The misinformation is causing unnecessary public unrest and diverting attention from actual kidnapping cases like the one in Oyo State. Fake content about school children being killed creates panic, wastes security resources, and undermines public trust in official information.
Nigerians are advised to verify any images or videos about kidnappings before sharing them. The public is encouraged to focus on confirmed cases and official information rather than potentially false content shared on social media, which the Presidency warns is designed to cause unrest.
