Primate Ayodele warns Tinubu Muslim-Muslim ticket risks religious crisis, names 13 challenging states
Primate Elijah Ayodele of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church warned President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday that the APC's Muslim-Muslim ticket for 2027 could trigger religious tension and potential crisis if not handled with wisdom. Speaking through his media aide, Ayodele stated that mishandling this issue might lead to violence, emphasizing it's not just a presidential matter but could affect states adopting similar ticket formats.
According to the religious leader, Tinubu will face particular difficulty selling his candidacy in 13 states across Nigeria, including Lagos, Oyo, and Osun in the Southwest; Kaduna, Kano, Sokoto, and Niger in the North; and Bayelsa, Imo, Enugu, Delta, Benue, plus the FCT Abuja. He stressed that even in Lagos, the President's home base, the election won't be 'bread and butter' and requires hard work to navigate.
The warning highlights how religious composition of political tickets remains a sensitive factor in Nigerian elections, with potential to exacerbate existing tensions. As parties finalize 2027 preparations, this intervention raises questions about balancing electoral strategy with national unity—what approach should political leaders take to address such concerns while maintaining competitive viability?
