Prof: Nigeria's Reality Breaks Political Science Textbooks
Professor Jibrin Ibrahim revealed yesterday that Nigerian politics operates on principles completely different from what's taught in academic classrooms. Speaking on Arise Television's 'Prime Time', the political science professor expressed deep depression about the disconnect between democratic ideals and actual practice.
According to Ibrahim, political parties have transformed into "vehicles for delivering power to individuals" rather than institutions following democratic principles learned through decades of political science education. As someone who studied classic political science, he noted that the democratic rules taught in textbooks have little connection to the reality on Nigeria's political stage.
This raises critical questions about whether Nigeria's democratic framework needs fundamental realignment, or if political science education must adapt to reflect actual practice rather than theoretical ideals.
