Providus Bank, Unity Bank to merge after Supreme Court clearance
Providus Bank Limited and Unity Bank Plc announced they will commence operations as a single entity following the Supreme Court's dismissal in early June 2026 of a suit challenging their merger. The Central Bank of Nigeria had approved the combination in August 2024, citing the need to strengthen the financial system and reduce systemic risk. The merged entity, to be called ProvidusUnity Bank, aims to combine Providus Bank's innovation and agility with Unity Bank's extensive reach and experience to better serve customers, support businesses, and contribute to Nigeria's economic growth. The bank said the merger ensures stability, improves customer experience, protects employees, and creates opportunities for career growth. It also emphasized that stronger financial institutions help unlock Nigeria's economic potential. Customers are advised to monitor official channels for updates on service continuity and any new products or services that may emerge from the integration.
