Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) National Chairman Hakeem Baba-Ahmed announced Thursday that the party will field a presidential candidate in 2027 without regard to zoning, ethnicity, or religious background. "Fielding a candidate from a particular zone is not important. I believe that it doesn't matter where the candidate is coming from," Baba-Ahmed stated during an Arise Television interview. He emphasized that "insisting that the president must come from one part of the country has damaged this country beyond anything you can imagine," citing the eight years under President Buhari's administration as evidence. The PRP's stance positions it against traditional power-sharing arrangements that have dominated Nigerian politics, potentially influencing other parties' candidate selection processes for the 2027 election. With Nigeria facing economic and security challenges, will political parties prioritize competence over regional balancing in candidate selection, or will zoning remain a critical factor in determining the next president?
