Paris Saint-Germain defeated Liverpool 2-0 in the Champions League quarter-final first leg Wednesday at Parc des Prines, taking a commanding lead into next week's second leg. Desire Doue opened the scoring in the 11th minute with a looping shot that deflected off Ryan Gravenberch, while Khvicha Kvaratskhelia doubled the lead 65 minutes into a match PSG controlled from start to finish with 70% possession in the first half.

The Spanish referee initially awarded a penalty to PSG after VAR review but reversed the decision when Konate took the ball. Liverpool manager Arne Slot left Mohamed Salah on the bench alongside Alexander Isak, who returned after a December leg injury. Joe Gomez slotted in as a third center-back in an unusual formation that couldn't contain PSG's attacking pressure.

PSG now holds a significant advantage heading to Anfield next Tuesday, where they won 1-0 last season before advancing on penalties. Liverpool must repeat their comeback against Galatasaray (losing 1-0 away then winning 4-0 at home) but faces a much tougher task against the dominant French side. Is this the end of Liverpool's Champions League hopes or can they pull off another historic comeback?
