Real Madrid have opened direct negotiations with Benfica manager Jose Mourinho to return as head coach for next season, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. President Florentino Perez is leading the effort, though Madrid will need to pay a release fee to secure the former Manchester United and Chelsea boss from his current contract.

This move comes amid severe dressing room turmoil at the Spanish club. Captain Federico Valverde was hospitalized after a training ground fight with teammate Aurelien Tchouameni, while Antonio Rudiger reportedly slapped Alvaro Carreras and was forced to apologize. Multiple players are also said to be openly mocking interim coach Alvaro Arbeloa.

Benfica wants Mourinho to stay but acknowledges the talks are ongoing, with the Portuguese manager's future depending entirely on Perez's decision. If successful, this would mark Mourinho's second stint at Real Madrid, where he previously won three LaLiga titles between 2010-2013.

Will this strategic move by Perez resolve Madrid's internal issues or create new complications in dressing room dynamics?
