Rep Ikeagwuonu Ugochinyere, lawmaker for Ideato North/Ideato South in Imo State, declared on Monday that President Bola Tinubu is inviting anarchy following a Federal High Court judgment that ordered the deregistration of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Action Peoples Party (APP) and three other political parties. He urged the National Judicial Council to examine the judgment, alleging that prior legal arguments and decisions were not adequately considered, and called on the Nigerian Bar Association to safeguard judicial integrity, warning that public confidence in the justice system could be undermined if concerns are not addressed.

He warned that the deregistration could push Nigeria toward a dangerous path reminiscent of past periods of political instability, threatening one of democracy's last hopes for the common man. The move affects opposition parties ahead of the 2027 elections, potentially limiting political competition and raising questions about the fairness of the electoral process.

ADC has announced it will appeal the judgment. Citizens and political actors should monitor the appeal process, consider how judicial independence impacts electoral fairness, and reflect on whether current actions strengthen or weaken democratic institutions. If the judiciary's independence is weakened, how might that affect your trust in future elections and governance?
