House Committee Chairman Adebayo Balogun accused Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) of opposing Nigeria's Electoral Act Amendment to gain popularity and funding. Speaking on Arise Television's 'Prime Time', Balogun stated: 'Civil Societies fighting against the Electoral Act are looking to make a name for themselves. They are looking for funding.' This criticism follows President Tinubu's signing of the controversial Act, which the Senate approved with electronic transmission of results as the primary method but manual collation as a backup. CSOs and opposition politicians have protested demanding real-time electronic transmission. Balogun defended the Senate's decision: 'We had to remove the real-time because a lot of people thought they would be viewing the election results on a screen, and if this didn't happen, there would be a crisis.' He emphasized the decision was about doing the right thing, not partisan politics.
