RMAFC has disowned a claim that the disputed oil wells report was discarded, following a now-deleted Facebook post by Commissioner Imo Akpan who allegedly said the IATC report "has been finally Discarded." The commission's spokesperson Maryam Yusuf states Akpan denies making the statement, clarifying the document is still undergoing institutional review.

The IATC was established to verify coordinates of disputed oil and gas wells across the Niger Delta, determining ownership for accurate disbursement of the constitutionally mandated 13% derivation revenue to oil-producing states. Disputed wells span eight states: Anambra, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Delta, Imo, Edo, Ondo and Rivers.

RMAFC chairman Mohammed Bello revealed the commission only received a draft report on February 13, 2026, and has forwarded it to relevant agencies including the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, National Boundary Commission, and Office of the Surveyor General for technical input. The report will undergo further scrutiny by internal committees before being presented at plenary session, with final recommendations transmitted to President Tinubu and the Attorney-General for constitutional consideration.

This process affects billions in revenue sharing between oil-producing states. How will the verification of disputed oil well ownership impact revenue allocation in your state?
