Roby Ekpo counters Mayowa Lambe's N100m defamation demand
Nigerian comedian Roby Ekpo has responded to a cease-and-desist notice from estranged wife Mayowa Lambe over allegedly defamatory statements made during his "Honest Bunch" interview. Mayowa, represented by Aunt Landa's Bethel Foundation Legal Department, demanded Roby retract statements within 48 hours and pay ₦100 million in damages.
Roby, through Tap Legal Services and lawyer Mbasekei Obono, denied defaming Mayowa, claiming his statements were based on personal experiences and truth. He also possesses documentary evidence contradicting Mayowa's claims and called the ₦100 million demand "excessive, unfounded, and premature." Roby threatened to file counterclaims for harassment and reputational harm.
The legal battle escalated as Roby's lawyer stated Mayowa's notice "amounts to an admission of some of our client's claims" and mentioned possible involvement of US government authorities. Roby remains open to lawful resolution but warned he "will not be pressured into making admissions or concessions under threat." All future communications must go through counsel.
