Rodri reveals Mourinho pitch before choosing Barcelona over Real Madrid
Barcelona midfielder Rodri confirmed he had a lengthy conversation with Real Madrid manager José Mourinho before deciding to join Barcelona instead of Madrid. Speaking to COPE, Rodri said Mourinho was eager to sign him, shared his enthusiasm and tactical vision for the Bernabéu, which attracted him greatly. Despite Mourinho's pitch, Rodri chose Barcelona for a sporting decision, stating he could grow more there. He completed a £65.4 million move from Manchester City to Barcelona in September 2026.
For Nigerian football fans who follow LaLiga, this transfer highlights how top players weigh long‑term development over immediate financial or prestige offers. Barcelona’s project under its current coach is positioning itself as a destination for growth, while Madrid under Mourinho is rebuilding. Such moves affect match excitement, league competitiveness, and the visibility of leagues where Nigerian talents often aspire to play.
If you are a young Nigerian athlete considering offers, would you prioritize a club’s sporting project and potential for growth over a higher salary or bigger name, or does guaranteed playing time and immediate impact matter more in your decision?
