Ronaldo hints 2026/27 season may be his last, wants spectacular legacy
Cristiano Ronaldo suggested the 2026/27 season could be his final year as a professional footballer, saying he wants to leave a 'spectacular legacy.' The 41-year-old Portugal captain made this revelation in a Vogue interview published Sunday, shortly after marrying longtime partner Georgina Rodríguez in an intimate ceremony on August 11 in Cascais, Portugal.
Ronaldo, who began the new Al-Nassr season on August 15 after joining the Saudi club in 2023, also represented Portugal at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America. The five-time Ballon d'Or winner has scored over 900 senior goals for club and country throughout his two-decade career with Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus and Portugal.
He acknowledged retirement would create a void but said he has future plans mapped out including family, travel, and playing padel. 'I have my future all mapped out,' he stated. 'I have so many things to keep me busy that to tell you just one thing is hard.'
Will Ronaldo's potential departure mark the end of an era in football, or will his influence continue to shape the sport beyond his playing days?
