ROUNDCHECK launches Civic Play web game to boost youth civic literacy across Southwest Nigeria
ROUNDCHECK, a youth-led fact-checking organisation, launched Civic Play - a web-based game with over 1,000 questions on civic and political issues designed to improve civic education, political literacy and media literacy among young Nigerians. The platform was unveiled during a virtual event themed "Advancing Civic Engagement Through Digital Innovation" on Saturday.
The game features timed questions, instant feedback and progress tracking to make learning about governance, politics and media literacy more accessible. ROUNDCHECK plans to introduce Civic Play in about 50 schools and tertiary institutions across Lagos, Oyo and Ogun states, with ambitions to expand through partnerships and add features like local language integration and a mobile app. The initiative targets Nigeria's youthful population to build a more informed generation capable of holding officials accountable and engaging with local governance issues like healthcare and community roads.
Available now at www.civicplay.ng, the launch drew over 60 attendees including representatives from Electoral College Nigeria, BudGIT, The Nation Newspaper and civil society groups. Beyond elections, organizers stress civic engagement should cover local government functions - a gap the platform aims to fill.
