Sam Amadi demands accountability for army generals over Nigeria insecurity

Sam Amadi, Director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thought and former NERC chairman, said on Friday (July 24, 2026) during an Arise Television Prime Time interview that some Nigerian army generals and leaders must be held accountable for the country’s insecurity, reacting to President Bola Tinubu's approval for expanding the Nigerian Army.

He argued that troop expansion alone cannot guarantee improved security; corruption in military leadership weakens efficiency, erodes public trust, and undermines the nation’s ability to tackle challenges, noting that roads are impassable and criminals operate freely. This highlights that without addressing leadership integrity, security efforts may fail, affecting citizens’ safety and livelihoods.

Citizens should scrutinise security policies, demand transparency and accountability from military leaders, and consider that merely increasing troop numbers may not solve insecurity. Supporting anti‑corruption initiatives, advocating for institutional reforms, and staying informed about security budget allocations are practical steps.
