Sam Amadi slams Minister Umahi for public comments on Mary Habila death case
Political analyst Dr. Sam Amadi criticized Minister of Works David Umahi on Friday for speaking publicly about the death of 26-year-old nurse Mary Habila, calling the situation "a PR disaster and an ethical disaster" during an Arise Television interview. Amadi argued that Umahi should have reported to police first and stepped aside given the serious allegations surrounding the case.
The former NERC boss emphasized that public officials facing weighty allegations should allow transparent investigations to proceed without interference, stating the President should demand accountability from ministers in such situations. He questioned why Umahi traveled with a young personal nurse and suggested the circumstances warranted immediate police involvement before any public statements.
Amadi further criticized the minister's press conferences as potentially undermining the investigation, and raised concerns about an affidavit allegedly signed by the deceased's parents—suggesting it appeared like a cover-up. He accused both the police of silence and the Federal Government of disregarding public morality and ethical standards.
This controversy highlights ongoing concerns about government accountability and transparency in handling sensitive cases involving officials. The case continues to draw public scrutiny over proper investigative procedures and ethical conduct expectations.
