Dr Sam Amadi, Director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thought, warned Nigerians on Arise Television’s Prime Time (Wednesday) not to be deceived by fine policies as the 2027 general elections approach. He urged voters to prioritize candidates’ commitment to the Nigerian people over the attractiveness of policy proposals.

Amadi stressed that policies can be revised, but a leader’s genuine commitment to the populace is what truly matters. He pointed to President Bola Tinubu’s 2023 manifesto, which he described as very good, yet noted that Tinubu has governed outside his social market philosophy, making a policy shift unlikely. He also linked the ongoing debate on fuel subsidy removal to rising living costs, saying voters struggle to balance real policy considerations with political optics.

Looking ahead, Amadi suggested that productive subsidies could form part of genuine policy thinking and urged the electorate to assess candidates based on their dedication to Nigerians rather than being swayed by fine‑sounding promises. As the 2027 polls draw nearer, will you evaluate candidates based on their track record of commitment to Nigerians, or be swayed by appealing policy promises?
