Arise Television’s Director of News/Politics, Sumner Sambo, said on Wednesday that Nigeria does not need further trial-and-error economics but political restructuring to improve citizens’ lives. Speaking on Prime Time, he argued that the country has endured enough economic experiments, leaving the poor suffering because governance systems remain unreformed. Sambo pointed to past visions like Abacha’s Vision 2010, noting its good ideas were never fully implemented due to lack of political will. He praised President Tinubu’s performance but insisted that a second term must be accompanied by political reforms to cut the high cost of governance and narrow the gap between rulers and the ruled.

This matters because Nigerians continue to face economic hardship while public officials enjoy lavish lifestyles, a disparity that fuels unrest and undermines trust in institutions. Without restructuring, Sambo warns, any economic policy will keep failing as it ignores the structural flaws in governance. The call for reform ties directly to everyday concerns: job creation, service delivery, and the affordability of basic needs.

If political restructuring proceeds, what specific changes should Nigerians demand—such as reducing the number of political offices, revisiting revenue allocation, or strengthening local governments—and how can citizens hold leaders accountable to ensure these reforms are not just another trial‑and‑error experiment?
