Samsung drops Galaxy M53 5G from security updates in June 2026
Samsung removed the Galaxy M53 5G from its quarterly security update list in June 2026, ending support for the mid-range phone launched in India on April 22, 2022. The last firmware it received was M536BXXSFGZE2, which carries the May 2026 security patch and was released on May 28, 2026; Sammy Fans confirmed this is likely the final update.
Without further security patches, the phone remains functional for calls, texts, Wi-Fi, camera and existing apps, but it will not receive fixes for newly discovered vulnerabilities. The June 2026 patch that the M53 5G misses addresses 45 security issues, including five rated Critical and 28 rated High, affecting Android and Samsung software. Over time, apps that check patch levels—especially banking and payment apps—may limit features or block access, and Samsung services like Knox, Secure Folder and Samsung Pay may flag the device as a weaker link. Google Play Protect and Play Services updates continue independently but do not replace system‑level patches.
If you own a Galaxy M53 5G, keep your apps updated via the Play Store, turn on two‑factor authentication for banking and email, and avoid installing apps from outside the Play Store. Treat any warning from a banking app about an outdated security patch as a sign to consider upgrading. For those shopping secondhand, skip the M53 5G and other recently retired models; a Galaxy S23 or newer offers monthly updates and several more years of OS upgrades, while a current A5x or A3x model still on Samsung’s quarterly list provides a safer mid‑range alternative.
