Saudi Arabia has turned down Nigeria’s request for more Hajj slots for 2027, keeping the country’s allocation at 50,000 pilgrims—35,000 for government pilgrims and 15,000 for licensed tour operators. The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) announced the decision in a statement from Abuja, saying it had formally appealed to Saudi authorities amid rising demand and pleas from state pilgrims’ welfare boards, but Saudi cited capacity limits, structural constraints at the holy sites, and its commitment to fixed country quotas.

For Nigerians planning the pilgrimage, this means the total number of available spots remains unchanged, and the deadline for uploading prospective pilgrims’ data to the Saudi Nusuk platform is firm: September 26, 2026, with no extensions allowed. NAHCON Chairman Ismail Abba Yusuf urged state boards, tour operators and agents to use their allocations transparently and meet all timelines, while encouraging those who miss out to register now for the 2028 Hajj via the newly opened portal.

Will you make sure your data is submitted before the September 26 cutoff, or begin preparing for the 2028 pilgrimage instead?
