Deputy Senate President Senator Jibrin Barau has congratulated Nigerians on the country’s 66th Independence Anniversary, urging citizens to renew their faith in the Nigerian project and stay committed to building a stronger, more prosperous and secure nation. In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, Barau called on Nigerians to reflect on the nation’s journey and uphold the ideals of unity, peace, justice, tolerance and shared commitment to progress. He noted that after 66 years of independence, Nigeria has made significant progress while continuing to confront challenges, and expressed confidence that with unity and resilience the country will overcome its difficulties.

Barau also urged Nigerians to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, saying cooperation with the public is essential to achieve the administration’s goals. He highlighted the State Police Bill currently before the State Houses of Assembly, explaining that once passed by state legislatures and assented to by the President, it will strengthen internal security and help address security challenges in parts of the country. The Federal Government has declared Thursday, October 1, 2026 a public holiday to commemorate Independence Day.

With the holiday set for tomorrow, Nigerians are encouraged to consider how they can contribute to nation‑building, back the Renewed Hope Agenda, and monitor the progress of the State Police Bill as it moves through state legislatures.
