Senegal Appeals AFCON Title Decision to CAS
Senegal has filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) challenging Morocco's 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title. The Senegalese Football Federation submitted the appeal against both CAF and Morocco's Royal Football Federation following CAF's controversial ruling that awarded Morocco a 3-0 win after overturning Senegal's 1-0 extra-time victory. CAS confirmed receipt of the appeal on 25 March 2026, stating a panel will be appointed to consider the case. Senegal seeks to have the CAF decision set aside and be recognized as champions, while requesting suspension of procedural deadlines pending full notification of CAF's ruling grounds. The appeal follows Senegal's walk-off protest during the final, which CAF ruled as a breach of regulations. Morocco's federation welcomed the decision, emphasizing adherence to rules over disputing the sporting outcome. CAS will allow 20 days for Senegal's legal arguments, followed by 20 days for CAF and Morocco's responses. Final hearing timing remains undetermined.
