Senegal clinched their second Africa Cup of Nations title, defeating Morocco 1-0 after extra time at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat on January 18, 2026. Pape Gueye scored the decisive goal, with Senegal's path to glory including wins over Botswana (3-0), Sudan (3-1), Mali (1-0), and Egypt (1-0), plus a draw with DR Congo.

The Teranga Lions, captained by Idrissa Gueye in the absence of suspended Kalidou Koulibaly, are now ranked 2nd in Africa and 19th globally. This marks their second AFCON title, having first won in 2022. Sadio Mane, Nicolas Jackson, and Cherif Ndiaye were among other key scorers.

This victory strengthens Senegal's standing in African football, with coach Pape Thiaw leading the team to success. For Nigerian football fans, Senegal's triumph highlights the competitive level of the continent's premier tournament as the Super Eagles prepare for future competitions.
