SERAP urged INEC chairman Joash Amupitan to investigate allegations that APC governors diverted N800 billion from FAAC allocations for political and campaign purposes. The letter dated May 16, 2026 demands prompt, thorough, and transparent investigation into the alleged monthly contributions to a dedicated campaign fund.

The allegations raise serious concerns about electoral integrity and threaten the fairness of 2027 general elections. SERAP emphasizes that opaque political financing undermines democratic legitimacy and violates Nigerians' constitutional right to participate in government.

Section 91 of the Electoral Act empowers INEC to set donation limits and enforce sanctions including fines up to ₦10 million for political parties and five times the excess amount for individuals. SERAP demands full disclosure of donors, investigation into compliance, and potential prosecution where violations are identified.

What happens if INEC fails to act? SERAP threatens legal action within 7 days to compel compliance. This isn't just about N800 billion—it's whether our elections remain fair when public funds allegedly finance political advantage.
