Shehu Sani to Nigerians: Leave social media, join politics
Former Senator Shehu Sani urges Nigerians aged 30-50 to quit social media commentary and enter active politics. In a Saturday X post, Sani said it's unacceptable that citizens in their middle years remain online critics while younger politicians hold elected offices. 'Your Rep member is in his 30s and your House of Assembly member and Local Government Chairman are in their 20s. Excuse yourself from their comment section; register as a member of a political party and aspire to contest,' Sani wrote. He dismissed surveys showing youth social media engagement over political participation as 'not helpful,' and encouraged aspirants not to be discouraged by lack of funds. 'You need to hear the story of most of those you see in power today; it wasn't an easy ride from the beginning. If they can be, so you can,' he added. Sani's message targets the 30-50 age bracket specifically, challenging them to provide the leadership they believe their communities deserve through direct political action rather than online debates.
