Shell appoints Elohor Aiboni as Nigeria Country Chair, first local to hold combined role
Shell has appointed Elohor Aiboni, former Managing Director of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited (SNEPCo), as Executive Vice President and Country Chair Nigeria, effective August 1, 2026. She becomes the first Nigerian to hold this combined leadership role in the company’s history, succeeding Marno de Jong who leaves after a 34-year career with Shell.
Aiboni brings over 24 years of experience across Shell’s offshore, shallow-water, and onshore businesses, plus international assignments in Kazakhstan and Brunei. She was the first female MD of SNEPCo, where she oversaw the Bonga deepwater asset’s milestone of producing its one-billionth barrel of oil in 2023. Her appointment highlights a milestone for local leadership in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
Currently serving as Asset Director at Brunei Shell Petroleum, Aiboni will relocate to Nigeria for the role. De Jong expressed confidence in her leadership, stating Shell operations will continue to deliver value and growth under her guidance. Stakeholders may watch how her leadership influences Shell’s investments, local content policies, and operational performance in Nigeria moving forward.
