Simi Clarifies Old Tweets Amid Backlash Over Rape Comments
Nigerian singer Simisola Bolatito Kosoko, known as Simi, responded to backlash over resurfaced 2012 tweets where she joked about a child's behavior. The controversy began after Simi called for rapists to be "burnt and castrated" during the Mirabel sexual assault case. Simi clarified she was 23 in 2012, living at her mother's daycare while pursuing music. She stated she tweeted everything happening in her life at the time, including children's mischievous behavior, which she found funny. Simi emphasized she was not a child then and has always opposed sexual violence, stating, "I've never claimed to be perfect. I've never claimed to know everything. I said stop raping women. I stand by it." She noted some tweets were deleted for family privacy but reaffirmed her stance against sexual assault.
