Skales backs female artists amid podcast claims of industry sex appeal pressure

Skales voiced support for female Nigerian musicians on X Thursday amid Fave's viral Afropolitan podcast interview, where she argued women face dual judgment on talent and sex appeal in the industry—making success harder than for male peers. The 'Shake Body' artist affirmed: 'Big up all the females... it ain't easy being a woman in this industry.'

Fave further claimed she, Tems, and Ayra Starr transformed Afrobeats by introducing varied vocal styles that departed from the 'very feminine' norm previously expected of female artistes, though systemic hurdles remain evident in ongoing discourse.

This exchange reveals how gender perceptions still influence artistic evaluation and opportunity access in Nigeria's music scene, urging industry stakeholders and audiences to examine whether current celebrations of female talent translate to equitable long-term investment and airplay.
