News ‘Slaughter of citizens cannot become normal’ – Atiku condemns latest Plateau killings Published on March 30, 2026 By Vanessa Onah Former Vice President and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Atiku Abubakar, has condemned the Palm Sunday attack on Gari Ya Waye community in the Angwan Rukuba area of Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, describing it as a “barbaric assault” and a sign of the worsening security crisis in Nigeria. Atiku, in a statement posted on his official X handle on Monday, reacted to the Sunday night attack which reportedly claimed the lives of several residents and left many others injured. The ex-VP expressed outrage over the incident, saying the continued killings across the country reflect a near-total collapse of governance. He wrote: “I am outraged by the barbaric attack in Gari Ya Waye community, Angwan Rukuba, Jos, which claimed the lives of scores of innocent Nigerians and left many others injured. “That this heinous assault occurred on Sunday night, March 29, 2026, is yet another damning indictment of the near-total collapse of security in our country. “What we are witnessing is not merely a security lapse, but a tragic descent into lawlessness where human lives are treated as expendable. “Despite endless pronouncements and so-called marching orders, insecurity remains the grim, daily reality of ordinary Nigerians who continue to bear the brunt of a failing system. It is long past the time for outrage without action. “The anger across the land must now compel urgent, decisive political will to confront and crush this menace. The continued slaughter of innocent citizens cannot become our new normal. “My thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of the victims in this dark and painful moment.” Don't Miss Over 700 detainees benefit from free legal support in Niger You may like Plateau govt imposes 48‑hour curfew in Jos North LGA after Angwan Rukuba attack Killings: ‘Anything grows in Plateau except peace’ — Shehu Sani Protests erupt in Plateau over deadly Palm Sunday attacks 10 feared killed, scores injured as gunmen invade another Plateau community Plateau Govt imposes 48-hour curfew after deadly attack Plateau police arrest kidnappers, gunrunners, in massive raids
