South Africa's producer price inflation for final manufactured goods slowed to 2.2% in January 2026, down from 2.9% in December 2025, according to Statistics South Africa. This indicates easing cost pressures at the factory gate. Key sectors showed mixed trends: food products rose 2.4%, furniture surged 12.2%, while petroleum products fell 2.3%. Annual PPI for intermediate goods increased to 10.5%, driven by metals and utilities. Agriculture contracted 7.7%, contributing -6.7 percentage points. These trends suggest input costs remain elevated despite moderating final goods inflation. Nigeria also saw a marginal inflation decline during the same period.
