Spiro has appointed Auroasish Choudhuri as Managing Director for West and Central Africa, effective Monday, according to a company statement. Choudhuri brings over two decades of automotive leadership across Africa, Asia, and the Americas, most recently as CEO of DAG Industries overseeing operations in Nigeria and Benin. He previously held regional roles at TVS Motor Company and Escorts Limited, focusing on sales, business development, and market expansion. He will report to Kaushik Burman, who now leads Spiro’s mobility services after being shifted from CEO following a $270 million fundraising round in June. That round also saw former Indofast Energy CEO Anant Badjatya installed as Group CEO, separating rider-facing operations from ambitions in battery swapping, energy infrastructure, logistics, and vehicle manufacturing.

Spiro is building an electric mobility ecosystem around its motorcycles, including battery‑swapping stations that let riders exchange depleted batteries for charged ones. The company assembles vehicles in Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda, runs a battery‑recycling facility in Nigeria, and operates in Benin, Togo, and Cameroon, with eyes on Ethiopia and the Democratic Republic of Congo. It recently acquired UK‑based Coexlion to strengthen control over its supply chain and move into vehicle development and manufacturing.

Choudhuri’s appointment signals Spiro’s push to scale its mobility business across West and Central Africa, leveraging his track record in market expansion. For commuters in Nigeria and neighboring countries, this could mean greater access to affordable, sustainable e‑motorcycles and swapping infrastructure. Investors and entrepreneurs should watch for new service launches, partnership opportunities, and the rollout of swapping stations as Spiro seeks to build the local supply chains needed for large‑scale adoption.
