Spotify launches audiobook service in Nigeria with local publishing options
Spotify launched its audiobook service in Nigeria earlier this week, letting Nigerian publishers and self-published authors distribute audiobooks to listeners in over 180 markets via Spotify for Authors. The catalogue includes more than 350,000 titles at launch, though the number of Nigerian‑authored books was not disclosed.
Free and Premium users can access the catalogue, but audiobook listening requires the Audiobooks+ add‑on—15 hours for ₦2,300 per month (unused hours do not roll over) or a 10‑hour top‑up for ₦2,700. Individual titles can be bought separately at varying prices. Features include a dedicated audiobook section, Page Match barcode sync, offline downloads, sleep timer, and progress saved across more than 2,000 device types.
Update the Spotify app, open the Audiobooks section or search for a title to start listening. Consider whether the monthly allowance fits your listening habits or if purchasing individual audiobooks suits you better. How might audiobooks fit into your commute, workout, or daily routine?
