Bayern Munich defeated Real Madrid 4-3 in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter‑final on April 15, advancing 6‑4 on aggregate. Eduardo Camavinga was shown a second yellow card and sent off in the 86th minute after a reckless tackle earned him his first caution and he then held the ball following a free‑kick, which the referee deemed time‑wasting. Bayern capitalized on the numerical advantage, with Luis Diaz and Michael Olise each scoring to seal the win.

Josip Stanisic criticised referee Slavko Vincic, telling MadridZone, “I don’t believe the referee was aware that he had already issued a yellow card to Camavinga. If he had known, he would not have shown the second yellow. Referees seem to have lost their ability to manage significant matches somewhat.” Stanisic argued the dismissal was unjust and suggested officials have lost control in big games. Camavinga also received a red card in last season’s UCL quarter‑final against Arsenal on April 8, 2025, when Madrid lost 3‑0 and were eliminated 5‑1 on aggregate.

The sending off means Camavinga will serve a one‑match suspension, missing Madrid’s next UCL fixture. Fans should consider whether refereeing standards in the Champions League need improvement and how such decisions affect team tactics, betting odds, and the overall integrity of the competition. Bayern’s aggregate victory sends them to the semi‑finals, where they could face either Arsenal or Atletico Madrid.
