Swift Telephone Network Limited (STN) has obtained a Unified Access Service Licence from the Nigerian Communications Commission, effective today, October 1, 2026, allowing it to offer voice, data, fixed and mobile services nationwide and transition from a call service to a full mobile network operator. The licence is renewable after 10 years. STN’s entry adds a new competitor to a market where MTN holds about 51.8% and Airtel about 34.3% of active subscribers, with Globacom and 9mobile making up the remainder. The company says it will invest in telecommunications infrastructure, expand connectivity, close the digital divide, develop local engineering and technical talent, prioritize partnerships with Nigerian vendors, and create jobs in distribution, retail and support services. STN’s Director of Legal and Regulatory Services Yetunde Okafor said the firm will announce strategic partnerships, infrastructure rollout plans and investor engagement programmes in the coming weeks as it prepares to launch commercial operations under the UASL. With the regulator’s approval, STN aims to build resilient, inclusive digital infrastructure for Nigeria. Will this new operator improve your mobile choices and pricing, or prompt existing providers to enhance service and value?
