The Great Ife Students’ Union has confirmed receiving reports of robbery incidents occurring within the university premises, specifically around the Department of Agricultural Extension and Rural Development (AESSON) and the Maintenance area. In a security alert issued this January, the Union corroborated earlier reports by the Association of Campus Journalists (ACJ OAU) that detailed at least three separate incidents where students were targeted. These events have prompted a swift reaction from the student leadership.

While reaffirming that the Obafemi Awolowo University campus remains generally safe and vibrant, the Union condemned these acts of criminality in strong terms. They described the perpetrators' actions as "cult-like behavior" and warned that the student body would not tolerate any threat to their peace. The leadership emphasized that security is a collective responsibility and urged every student to be their "brother's keeper" by looking out for one another.

The Union has advised all students to adhere strictly to safety precautions, especially when moving around isolated areas. They have established protocols for students to raise an alarm immediately if they witness any suspicious activities or find themselves in danger. The goal is to ensure that relevant security agencies and the student security committee can respond swiftly to hunt down culprits and prevent further occurrences.

This confirmation serves as a wake-up call to the university community. It has led to increased vigilance among students and a demand for a more visible security presence in the identified hotspots. The Union has assured the students that they are working with the university management to tighten security measures and ensure that the perpetrators of these robberies are apprehended and brought to justice.
