Sunday Igboho, the Yoruba nation agitator who returned from exile after a pardon, declared his support for President Bola Tinubu and said he will not be an ingrate like former ADC national secretary Rauf Aregbesola. Speaking at the APC Youth Network meeting in Accra, Ghana on June 28, 2026, Igboho said, "I will continue to appreciate and support the government of Bola Tinubu for forgiving me and restoring me back from a lonely exile. I will support him for eight years because I am not an ingrate like his former commissioner called Aregbesola." He added that, like former presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Muhammadu Buhari who served eight years, and Goodluck Jonathan who served about six, Tinubu will complete two terms by God’s grace.

The endorsement signals a possible shift in the Yoruba self‑determination movement, which has at times opposed the federal government. Igboho’s backing could sway Yoruba voters ahead of the 2027 presidential election and signal Tinubu’s growing influence over former separatist figures. It also highlights the political reconciliation between the president and a figure once charged with treasonable offences.

If Igboho’s support translates into Yoruba electoral backing, how might it affect Tinubu’s chances in 2027, and what does it mean for the future of separatist agitations in the southwest?
