Super Eagles defender Bewene inks five‑year Baník Ostrava contract through 2031
Super Eagles defender Abdullahi Bewene has signed a new five‑year contract with Czech club Baník Ostrava, keeping him at the team until June 2031, DAILY POST reports. The 21‑year‑old right‑back came up through Baník’s youth and B teams before breaking into the first squad. Bewene made his senior international debut for Nigeria last month in a friendly against Poland and also played in the 2‑1 loss to Portugal. He previously represented Nigeria at the U‑17 level.
The new deal ends weeks of speculation about his future and secures a key defensive option for the Super Eagles as they prepare for upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers and the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. Bewene’s European experience is seen as a boost for Nigeria’s back line, especially with older defenders aging out of the squad.
Will this long‑term commitment give Bewene the stability to cement a regular starting spot for Nigeria, or will increased competition for the right‑back spot push him to improve further?
