Super Eagles prepare for 2027 AFCON qualifier vs Madagascar this Friday, Sept 25 at 5pm in Uyo's Godswill Akpabio Stadium. This opens Nigeria's qualifying campaign for the tournament hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. Striker Taiwo Awoniyi replaces injured Victor Osimhen (adductor strain) in the squad announced by coach Eric Chelle.
Players express confidence in camp - Fulham's Alex Iwobi says 'everyone is in high spirits' and they'll beat Madagascar despite acknowledging them as a good team. Goalkeeper Nwabali welcomes new players joining the squad. The team is lodged at Sheraton by Four Points Hotel in Ikot Ekpene where they spoke to Channels Television.
Beyond Madagascar, Nigeria faces Guinea-Bissau on Sept 29 and an international friendly vs Russia on Oct 6. Chelle previously named separate squads for these AFCON qualifiers and the Russia match, with defensive options including Bruno Onyemaechi, Calvin Bassey and attacking features Ademola Lookman, Samuel Chukwueze.
