Super Eagles jump 12 places to 26th in FIFA World Ranking
Nigeria's Super Eagles have climbed 12 places to 26th in the latest FIFA World Rankings released Monday, following their bronze medal finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. The team also gained +79.09 points, moving up from 38th position.
The rise comes after Nigeria's strong AFCON performance, where they lost only one of seven matches. The team reached the semi-finals, defeated by hosts Morocco in a penalty shootout, before beating Egypt to secure third place. Their campaign was praised for showing coordination, teamwork, and excellent execution under coach Eric Chelle.
At the continental level, Nigeria now sits 3rd among African nations, behind Morocco (global 8th) and Senegal. Globally, the top 10 remains dominated by traditional powerhouses: Spain, Argentina, France, England, Brazil, Portugal, Netherlands, Morocco, Belgium, and Germany.
The Federal Government has congratulated the team through Minister of Information Mohammed Idris, highlighting their discipline and unity as reflecting Nigerian values. The ranking reflects not just tournament success but Nigeria's growing stature in African football, blending homegrown talent with international experience.
With this momentum, will the Super Eagles maintain their upward trajectory towards the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, or does this AFCON bronze represent their peak for this cycle?
