Super Eagles rally from 3-1 down to draw 3-3 with Russia in Nizhny Novgorod
Nigeria's Super Eagles rescued a 3-3 draw against Russia on Tuesday night after falling behind 3-1. Kelechi Iheanacho opened the scoring in the 10th minute, but Russia's Lechi Sadulaev equalised in the 30th, Matvey Kislyak put them ahead just before halftime, and Alexey Miranchuk made it 3-1 early in the second half. Nigeria responded with Peter Edokpolor's senior debut goal in the 78th minute and Akor Adams finishing a counter-attack in the fourth minute of added time to level the match.
The result leaves Nigeria with six goals conceded across two internationals – three to Guinea-Bissau and three to Russia – highlighting defensive frailty that coach Eric Chelle must address before the next 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
On the plus side, Iheanacho's return after a two-year absence gave the attack an experienced spark, while debutants Edokpolor, Adams and others showed they can influence games from the bench.
Will you back the Super Eagles to tighten up their defence and build on this fighting spirit, or look for more changes ahead of the crucial qualifiers?
