Super Eagles striker Umar Sadiq nears Valencia return after injury setback
Super Eagles forward Umar Sadiq, sidelined since an injury in September before Valencia’s match against FC Barcelona, says he could resume team training soon if Thursday’s medical tests show no complications. The Nigerian striker missed five La Liga fixtures—against Barcelona, Sevilla, Alavés, Real Sociedad and Racing Santander—after scoring his first goal of the season versus Deportivo La Coruña. Speaking at Valencia’s meet‑and‑greet event, Sadiq told reporters he is nearing the final stages of recovery and will undergo further tests tomorrow (Thursday) to determine his readiness to train.
His potential return matters for both club and country. Valencia would regain an attacking option as they aim to improve under new manager Javier Aguirre, who has already encouraged Sadiq to get well soon. For the Super Eagles, a fit Sadiq adds depth ahead of upcoming qualifiers, giving the national team another proven goal‑scoring threat. His experience working under Aguirre could also influence his role and chances of regular selection.
Fans should note that Sadiq insists he will not rush back; his immediate priority is completing recovery without risking re‑injury. If Thursday’s checks are positive, he expects to rejoin training very soon, with his official comeback date depending on medical clearance. Will Sadiq’s timely return strengthen Valencia’s push for a higher league spot and give the Super Eagles a much‑needed goal threat in upcoming qualifiers?
