Super Eagles survive Tunisia scare to reach AFCON last 16 as group winners

Nigeria's Super Eagles secured a nervy 3-2 victory over Tunisia in Fes to guarantee top spot in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations group and advance to the knockout stage. Victor Osimhen, Wilfred Ndidi, and Ademola Lookman scored to give Nigeria a commanding 3-0 lead with 17 minutes left, but Tunisia fought back with two late goals to create a frantic finish.

The win gives Nigeria six points, making them uncatchable in Group C with one game to spare. As group winners, they will now face a third-placed team from either Group A, B, or F in the Round of 16, theoretically an easier path. Tunisia remains second with three points, needing only a draw in their final game against Tanzania to also qualify.

The Super Eagles stay in Fes to play Uganda on Tuesday, while Tunisia heads to Rabat. Egypt is the only other team confirmed for the knockout stage so far. Despite the win, coach Eric Chelle will be concerned about the team's concentration after nearly surrendering a three-goal lead.
