Super Eagles to face in-form Russia in Nizhny Novgorod friendly on October 12
Russia’s 6-0 win over Namibia on Saturday highlighted their attacking depth, with five players—Sadulaev, Glushenkov, Tyukavin, Petrov, and Prutsev—scoring or assisting. The Super Eagles will meet this in‑form side in an international friendly at Nizhny Novgorod Stadium on Tuesday, October 12, 2026.
For Nigeria, the match offers a chance to bounce back from a disappointing 3‑0 loss to Guinea‑Bissau in their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier. Russia’s midfielders can strike from range, their forwards punish gaps inside the box, and bench players like Glushenkov and Tyukavin have shown they can change games. Nigeria’s defence will need to stay compact, limit space between the lines, and track late runs from midfield.
Will the Super Eagles adopt a high press to disrupt Russia’s rhythm, sit deep and rely on quick counters, or adjust midfield pairing to cover the attacking thrust from deep? Kick‑off time has not been announced; fans should check local listings for broadcast details.
