Nigeria's Super Falcons secured their place in the third round of 2028 Olympic qualifiers with a 5-0 victory over Comoros on Tuesday, completing a 7-0 aggregate win. Toni Payne and Uchenna Kanu netted twice each, while Christy Ucheibe converted a penalty as Nigeria kept clean sheets in both legs of the tie.

The result marks a significant step in the team's rebuilding process following a disappointing 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations campaign. Defensive organization showed clear improvement, with the Super Falcons conceding no goals across both matches for the first time since the 2024 WAFCON group stage. The new center-back partnership of Shukurat Oladipo and Christy Ucheibe looked composed and complementary, while Ucheibe's penalty goal underlined her dual threat. Performances from Michelle Alozie at right-back and impact substitutes Folashade Ijamilusi and Blessing Okpe also provided encouragement for coach Augustine Eguavoen.

Although Comoros offered limited resistance, the victory builds momentum ahead of a much tougher challenge against Morocco in the next round. Morocco eliminated Republic of Congo after their withdrawal and represent a significant step up in quality. Having beaten Morocco 3-2 in the 2024 WAFCON final, Nigeria knows they can compete but must replicate that form against elite opposition. Will the Super Falcons maintain this defensive solidity and attacking versatility when faced with Morocco's stronger challenge?
