The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Dr Augustina Godwin, performed the flag-off on Tuesday, announcing that Jalingo and Ardo-Kola local government areas have been selected as pilot centres for the programme. She charged the master trainers to act as change agents, stressing that the success of the pilot phase in Jalingo and Ardo-Kola will determine its expansion to other parts of the state. Also speaking, the Permanent Member II of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr Zachariah John, described the initiative as “a bold step toward repositioning basic education in Taraba for the demands of a digital age”. He commended the ministry and its partners for prioritising teacher development. On his part, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alhaji Idris A. Goje, said the rollout aligns with the education reform agenda of Governor Dr Agbu Kefas. He urged participants to fully embrace the programme and demonstrate excellence in their respective schools. Supporting the ministry’s position, the Special Adviser on Education to the governor, Samaila Dauda Agbu, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving teachers’ capacity, noting that investment in teachers directly impacts students’ futures. The EIDU Digital Learning System is expected to provide structured digital lesson plans, offline learning materials and real-time coaching support for teachers.
