TCN reports tower collapse disrupts power supply to Keffi, Akwanga areas
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announced that transmission towers T78, T79 and T80 collapsed along the Karu-Keffi-Akwanga 132kV line corridor after heavy rainfall caused the line to trip on overcurrent protection at about 4:06 p.m. on Wednesday. As a result, all 33kV outgoing feeders at the 132/33kV Keffi and Akwanga substations are currently unavailable, and no load can be nominated on the affected feeders for the interim.
TCN said its engineers are on site assessing the damage to determine what is needed for restoration. The company regrets the inconvenience this will cause electricity customers drawing supply from the Keffi and Akwanga substations and urged them to bear with repair efforts. No timeline for restoration was provided, but TCN promised further updates as work progresses.
If you rely on power from these substations, consider having backup power options ready and monitor TCN’s official channels for restoration updates. How long might you need to cope without grid power, and what steps are you taking to mitigate the disruption?
