The defendant whose address was not stated, is standing trial on charges bordering on assault and breach of peace. He alleged that the defendant assaulted his landlady, one Oluwabunmi Otokiti, by grabbing her neck inside her house. He also alleged that the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to breach public peace by his conduct. “The defendant was later arrested and handed over to Police for prosecution,” he said The offences contravene the provisions of sections 168 and 172 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015. The Chief Magistrate, Mr Nurudeen Layeni, granted the defendant bail in the sum N500,000 with sureties in like sum. He held that one of the surety must be a community leader. The court adjourned the case until May 14, for mention.
