TETFund Adopts RHV Robotic Academy as Centre of Excellence, Full Scholarships
FG designates Redeemer's Health Village Robotic Surgery Academy as Nigeria's 29th TETFund Centre of Excellence, guaranteeing full tuition scholarships for all medical professionals enrolled in specialist training. Minister of Education Dr. Tunji Alausa made the announcement at Thursday's inauguration, confirming TETFund will fund tuition through its local scholarship scheme.
The academy—Nigeria's first for advanced robotic and telesurgical operations—launches with $4 million in dual robotic surgical systems through a partnership with RoboMed Global, the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (NPMCN), and Redeemer's University. It targets 400 certified specialists within two years across Urology, General Surgery, and Gynaecology, plus training for theatre staff, biomedical engineers, and administrators.
This follows FG's ₦250 billion injection into medical education over two years and plans to expand annual medical enrolments to 20,000. NPMCN will award postgraduate fellowship diplomas; Redeemer's University handles nursing and biomedical engineering training. RHV performed Nigeria's first robotic and telesurgical procedures in September, positioning West Africa as a regional hub for tech-driven care.
For doctors weighing the japa dilemma, this means world-class surgical training at zero cost—locally. Will you apply for the specialist programme, or pursue training abroad despite the new domestic option?
